Celebrating and Honoring the Life Legacy of Carolyn Thomas was held on March 4, 2023 at Greater Mount Calvary Baptist Church. She was a 1969 graduate of J.S. Clark High School, Opelousas, LA. Carolyn earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in December 1975 and a Master of Education in December 1979. She served as an Educator in Evangeline Parish first at Ville Platte Elementary then at Vidrine High School before moving to Southwest Elementary in St. Landry Parish. She retired with 33 1/2 year of educating and molding young lives. Carolyn had a deep passion for education and touched countless lives. Her memories will be treasured by daughter, Nichelle Milburn, two granddaughters,  Malon Frank and Kyli Bolden all of Lafayette, LA; one brother, Herbert Lee Thomas, Sr. (Myra) of Houston, Texas and a host of other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life Funeral Mass for Gene A. Phillips, Sr., KC*HS, was held on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Houston, Texas. He was born on September 10, 1942 and departed this life, December 10, 2022. He attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and later transferred to Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. He joined the United States Air Force and served as aerial photographer in Vietnam. On His returned, he married Elsa Rita Haydel in 1967 and was blessed with two sons. In 1982, Gene joined the Knights of Peter Claver and in 2006 because the 15th Supreme Knight [the organization’s highest position]. The Knights of Peter Claver and Ladies Auxiliary was the heart and soul of his life’s mission until his passing. His leadership and accomplishments allowed him to touch the lives of thousands and inspire hundreds of Claver members to live a life of service to God, their community and their church. There are few words that will do Gene A. Phillip, Sr. justice; his family, friends, acquaintances and his heart and soul, the Knights of Peter Claver & Ladies Auxiliary, was so fortunate to have had him in their lives. He will forever be remembered in the highest regard. Heartfelt condolences and prayers are extended to his family and friends.
